Everybody Dance Now!

Tap, Hip-hop, ballet, jazz, salsa, swing, ballroom, contemporary dancers, show us what you've got!

The DHS Jazz Choir announces its second annual dance competition, "Everybody Dance Now!", on Saturday, October 1, 2011 at the Richard Brunelle Performing Arts Building.  Modeled after shows like So You Think You Can Dance and American Idol, this one-night dance competition is open to all DJUSD 7th-12th grade students.  Ten contestants will have the chance to win one of two cash prizes.  Dances may be performed as either a solo or duet piece.  (Dancers who enter the competition as a couple compete as one entrant and share any prize money.)  Each contestant will perform a dance to a 2-5 minute song of his or her choice.  The Grand Prize winner ($150 cash prize) will be chosen by a panel of three judges with backgrounds in dance, and audience members will cast their vote for the People's Choice winner ($75).  Participants will also learn and perform a group dance which will be taught by Cara Rains, the choreographer for the DHS Jazz Choir.

Beginning Aug 1st, application forms will be available on the Jazz Choir website, and once school starts they will be available in the vocal room (PA-08), and in the DHS office.  Participation is limited to 10 contestants.  No auditions are required, although dances and music must be school-appropriate (G-rated).  Selection of contestants and order of waiting list will be determined by lottery.

Applications must be received on or before Wednesday, Sept. 9th, along with a $10 application fee.  Selected contestants will be notified by Sept. 11th.  Applicants who are not selected in the lottery will receive a refund of their application fee after October 1st.

Contestants must attend mandatory rehearsals every day from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m. the week of Sept 23-30.
